Second seeded Spaniard David Ferrer showed no mercy towards his fellow countryman Nicolas Almagro, as he ran way with an outstanding victory in the Bastad final. Ferrer continued his impressive form from earlier in the week to crush Almagro 6-1 6-2 in just 68 minutes. It is Ferrer's second tournament win of the year, after taking home the trophy in Auckland earlier this year, and the fourth of his career.
"Today I played really well and could play my own game in the final. In fact I've played well all week here in Bastad," said an elated Ferrer, who managed to capture the title without the presence of his coach.
A disappointed Almagro still thinks he has what it takes to the reach the top of the tennis world, but realises he will have to play better than he did today. "I have all the right shots that I need to reach Top 15, but I have to stop playing bad matches like this in order to make it. It was disappointing and unexpected to lose the final after having played so well all week."
Ferrer now heads to Stuttgart, where he is the defending champion.
