Swedish veteran Jonas Bjorkman has been knocked out of his home country's tournament after a convincing 6-4 6-2 loss to Nicolas Almagro. The Spanaird loss only three points on his first serve to steamroll the eighth seed and book his place in the quarterfinals.
Joining Almagro in the final eight will be Filippo Volandri, who will play in his first ATP quarterfinal since Rome, the tournament where he defeated world number one Roger Federer. Volandri needed three sets to get through against Russian qualifier Yuri Schukin 4-6 6-3 6-4. The other two quartefinalists will be Olivier Rochus, who defeated Czech Lukas Dlouhy 6-4, 7-5, and Luis Horna, after he backed up his win over top seed Tommy Robredo on Monday with a 6-3 7-5(5) victory over Argentine Carlos Berlocq.
