Gutsy Hewitt puts out Gaudio

LLeyton Hewitt produced a typically gutsy performance against the 2004 champion Gaston Gaudio to advance to the third round, fighting back from two sets to love down, winning 4-6 3-6 6-2 6-4 6-2 in a match lasting just short of 4 hours.
The gritty Aussie who has been in good form of late, reaching the semi-finals of the Hamburg Masters where he led Rafael Nadal 5-3 in the final set before the Spaniard turned things around, looked to be on his way out at 2 sets to love down. However, using his greater variety and weight of shot, the former world number 1 having clawed his way back to two sets all, broke the Argentine at the start of the final set and followed that up with a double break to go ahead 5-2. He had no trouble closing out the match and celebrated in true Hewitt style with fist pumps in the direction of his camp.
He is now on course for a 4th round meeting with Rafael Nadal should he prevail against Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in the next round.
