Tsonga defeats Djokovic to win Thailand Open
posted Sunday Sep 28, 2008 08:50pm by Andre Jones

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga sensationally defeated top seeded Novak Djokovic 7-6(4) 6-4 to win the Thailand Open in Bangkok, claiming his maiden ATP title in the process.

In a repeat of the Australian Open final earlier this year which saw the Serb win in four tight sets, it was the second seeded Frenchman who prevailed with his assortment of aggressive baseline play and deft drop shots to unsettle the world No.3.

"I feel great, it's got to be one of the best moments of my life," said Tsonga. "I just played unbelievable tennis against Novak and it was just my dream so I'm really happy."

Djokovic has not won a title since winning the Rome Masters in May.
